Meet Lucy
When Lucy is in the studio, chances are there will be lots of giggles and jokes during the session. Always good for a laugh and always up for a chat with fellow artists or volunteers, Lucy is not only known for her vibrant geometrical pieces, but also for her positive and friendly attitude.
Lucy joined Artbox back in 2014, but has been making art for a lot longer. “I have loved creating art since I was little and I wanted to join Artbox to exhibit my work for the whole world to see.” Lucy now travels to the studio independently by bus and has grown immensely in her work.
She is an avid painter, but has also experimented with collage and felt tips. In some of her latest pieces, she has been using maths and measurements to create triangles, half circles and other geometric shapes, that together form bright and bold abstracts. Much of her work is inspired by Sonia Delaunay’s art, which she saw a few years ago on an Artbox trip to the Tate Modern, and features colourful shapes, patterns and figures. She also uses Pinterest to do research, to find other artists that inspire her, and to pin interesting images to her personal board. Recently, Lucy was joined in the studio by a very special assistant: Lola the PAT dog, who she treated to lots of pets and cuddles.
Lucy is a real busy bee: besides creating art, she also juggles working a paid job, seeing her boyfriend, and participating in lots of other activities scheduled during her weeks! On Saturday 21 st March, it is World Down’s Syndrome Day. Approximately 40,000 people in the UK have Down’s Syndrome. Lucy says, “They might have different hobbies and interests, different religious beliefs and race and where they live but we celebrate every person that got it and never leave them behind and we treasure who they are and work as a team.”
