Jonathan Small.jpg

Hi, I’m Jonathan, a visual artist who works across a range of mediums and styles, but primarily painting. I also love drawing and printmaking particularly relief printing on woodblock or lino. I studied Fine Art at Wimbledon College of Art, graduating in 2012 and was also part of the Turps Banana Studio Programme from 2016-18. Most of my work is in an abstract style but I am also interest in figurative styles particularly portraiture. My other interests include making music and pottery. Here’s some of my work…

Alexandra Tidswell - Art Facilitator (Friday and Saturday) and Studio Manager

Hi, I am an artist and art facilitator based in London. I have a degree in Fine Art Print and Time Based Media and in my printmaking practice I specialise in gel plate printing - a mono-printing method that is endlessly creative and allows me to playfully explore colour, shapes and composition. In my work I connect art with wellbeing and have produced workshops that focus on expressive and mindful art. I believe there is no right or wrong way to make art, as long as you are having fun and enjoying the process.

Here are some examples of my work:

Charlotte Joseph, Art Facilitator (Friday Morning Workshop)

Kate.jpg

Hi, I’m Charlotte and I began working at Artbox as a volunteer and now work as an Art Facilitator.
I work as a freelance graphic designer having graduated with a design degree from Central/Saint Martin’s. I create images that visually communicate a message using a mixture of freehand illustration, type, computer drawn graphics and photography. I really enjoy experimenting with different techniques and styles. My taste in art is very eclectic, I enjoy anything from the Old Masters to contemporary artists. Here are some examples of my work…

Laura Calloni, Product Development Technician and Evening Class Facilitator

I’m Laura, a visual artist from Italy. After studying Printmaking in Florence, I moved to London to complete an MA in Visual Communication at the Royal College of Art. I tend not to focus on one media, although I definitely enjoy the process of printmaking and book arts. I believe in the transformative power of art and creativity, which is why I find working at Artbox so compelling and inspiring.

Here are some examples of my work…

Katie Parsons, Art Facilitator (Thursday workshops)

Hi I’m Katie. I’m an artist, mum of two young girls and full-time lover of bright colours. I studied at Wimbledon School Of Art before completing a BA in Graphics and Illustration at Central Saint Martins.

My work background varies from music journalist, to radio presenter, content director and creative strategist in advertising - with the most recent focus on teaching art to children and evolving my own practice.

I joined Artbox as a volunteer in 2022 and find huge amounts of joy in working with the artists, discovering their passions and encouraging experimentation with various techniques and media.

Here are some examples of my work:

Violet Lamninos, Studio Volunteer and Co-facilitator

Hi, I’m Violet. I’m one of the artists at Artbox - I’ve been coming here for 5 years now. In my art I’m interested in the spiritual world, the afterlife and cats. My family is from Cyprus so it’s quite connected to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians.

I’ve been volunteering for nearly one year now in the daytime workshops, helping other artists with their art. I’ve also visited lots of different places and business, leading art workshops for people inspired by my art.

Here are some of my artworks:

Martyna Raczka, SEN & Wellbeing Support

Hi, I'm Martyna. I've had an opportunity to be part of Artbox from the very beginning, first in the capacity of a trustee, then a mindfulness teacher and I have now joined the team as a mental health and well-being support.

In this position I combine my experience of working as an SEN teacher for over a decade and a mindfulness and mental health coach.

I am a great appreciator of art and love being surrounded by creative people. I feel privileged to be part of the team supporting the artists, staff members, volunteers and parents in finding the best ways of discovering their full potential.

Check out our wellbeing area of the site to see one of the projects I worked on with the artists:

Toyin Olubamiwo, Studio Assistant

Click on the button below to learn more about Toyin and see her art:

Toyin is our resident Wonder Woman - half Studio Assistant, half Artist, Toyin has been with us at Artbox since 2014. She started this role in 2022 helping to keep the studio in order while supporting our facilitators - she especially makes sure to organise the materials "so they don't get mixed up or get lost."

Toyin also helps to get new artists settled in the studio. She shows them around, shows them where things are kept and introduces them to the other artists and their work. Toyin takes pride in helping the other artists, her friends, develop their work - including contributing names for artworks. As an autistic artist she takes great pride in sharing her experiences with others and making artists and volunteers feel welcome.
When asked if she was enjoying her role she said "900% yes!" Toyin's hard work, enthusiasm and loyalty make her a great asset to our team.

Esther Harbord, Job Coach

Hi, I’m Esther! I’m a multi-disciplinary artist working in sculpture and performance. I graduated in 2023 with a 1st class BA in Fine Art from Arts University Bournemouth. I enjoy applying art as a way of communicating and I am inspired by walking and being in nature. My work uses day to day materials, objects and the body to encourage my audience to engage in a deeper connection with their own physical and emotional experiences. I love thinking of new ways to inspire our wonderful artists. Here are some examples of my work:

Georgina George-Scott, Co-Director

Hi I'm Georgina, Co-Director at Artbox. My background is in finance and strategy and I have worked in the public, charity and arts sectors.

At Artbox I largely look after the money and fundraising and also make sure our artists and their families are getting the best from us at Artbox. This includes planning for the future or building relationships with friends outside of Artbox who want to support our work.

In 2015 I went back to university where I gained a 1st class honours degree in Fine Art. My role at Artbox means I can be surrounded by the creativity of our artists and staff whilst ensuring the organisation continues to grow. I love my job!

Madeline Alterman, Co-director/Founder

Hi, I’m Madeline. I set up Artbox back in 2011 for a number of reasons. Firstly, I have a younger brother who has learning disabilities, which gave me an awareness of the challenges, as well as the need for good support and opportunities.

I’ve also always loved art and after studying art and psychology and gaining experience in the charity sector, decided that setting up a supported studio could provide some solutions to some of the issues I was seeing.

Although I no longer work directly in the sessions, I absolutely love coming up to the studio to see the artists and their artwork.
