Individuality and Andreas

At Artbox we celebrate individuality and enable it by working on an individualised basis with each artist. We like to meet our artists where they are, finding out about their own goals and interests and supporting them to create from there. Our facilitators have a strong relationship with the artists who come to their sessions which allows them to listen and create dynamic plans which respond to the artists’ individual aspirations.

Andreas is a great example of someone pursuing an individual goal, less interested in traditional mediums of art, Andreas loves to make costumes and embody the characters of his favourite films. 

Andreas comes to the studio every Thursday afternoon. He’ll often walk through the door brandishing a DVD, and won’t hesitate to enlist Jonathan, one of our Art Facilitators, to help him make a new element of a costume from the movie. Each piece, whether it is a hat, a cuff or a shield enhances Andreas’ magical powers. In these moments, often just equipped with some cardboard, paint and glue, Jonathan facilitates bringing Andreas’ dreams to life.

Donning his costumes and embodying the characters through his impressions helps Andreas communicate with other artists and the facilitators at Artbox. Andreas temporarily feels the special powers his costumes give him, sparking real joy!
