How to Make .. Hanging Planters

An easy guide showing how to make your own clay hanging planters at home. Tried and tested by our artists in the studio!

You will need:

• White air-dry clay
• Rolling pin
• Ruler
• Leather cord
• Knife
• Pencil
• Sandpaper

1. Roll out the clay using a rolling pin.

2. Cut out a rectangle using a craft knife and ruler. Be careful with the knife!

The longer the rectangle, the wider the planter will be.

3. Fold the rectangle into a circle and pinch the two edges together firmly.

4. Roll out another piece of clay to the same thickness and place the cylinder on top. Cut out a circle from the shape of the cylinder.

5. Place the cylinder on the base and pinch them together. Smooth the clay to seal.

6. Punch two holes in the cylinder in order to hang it. Use a pencil and place holes an equal distance apart.

7. Leave pot to dry. Once completely dry, smooth rough edges with sandpaper. Loop the leather cord through the holes to finish. Measure to desired height. Plant your favourite houseplants and voila!
