Artbox returns to (new) normal
The Artbox studio has been up and running for a few months now and things are pretty much back to (new) normal.
The studio was looking a bit sad during lockdown but now, filled with artists, albeit socially-distanced, it has its zingy atmosphere back. We’ve been thrilled to see some of our regulars pick up tools and get straight to work, and some of the art coming out of our studio sessions has been phenomenal. We’ve also been joined by some new faces, artists, facilitators and volunteers, which is wonderful-the Artbox family is growing.
We are currently working on a few projects that will be revealed in the coming months, including our RISO project which will air at the end of October.
Some of Artbox’s artists have been responding to the evolving socio-political landscape, producing work that explores their concerns or curiosities about the world as it currently stands. For example, David, who has taken cuttings of politicians and incorporated them into his work.
Then we have Henry who has designed some vibrant masks.
The past few months have been awash with colour and our Instagram has been flooded with posts of the work pouring out of the studio. We’ve also had a good number of sales and donations which help to keep us going as we navigate the strange economic climate we all find ourselves in.
The great thing about buying art from us is that 50% goes to us and 50% goes to the artist. That means when you buy any Artbox product, whether it’s a print or a tote bag, that money goes back into our organisation and is a financial indicator to the artist that their work is worth something. Your purchase boosts morale and provides an income for artists with learning disabilities and/or autism. That’s pretty cool, no?
